“When we bought this house, my original plan was to have the exterior repainted,” Jeannie said. “I even had the idea that I would do it myself. But let me tell you, after a few hours standing on a ladder in the sun scraping paint, I was absolutely over that idea.”
Vinyl Siding Offers Maintenance Free Happiness
Wooden clapboard siding is common on older homes in the Tewksbury area, but it does require a lot of care and maintenance. To resist weather and insect damage, wooden siding needs to be kept painted. Paint deteriorates over time, which means this is a recurring maintenance task that is time consuming and expensive.
“I got bids to paint our house and they took my breath away,” Jeannie said. “Especially when I got to thinking I’d have to go through this again in 4-5 years. That’s when I said to my husband, “How hard would it be to get vinyl siding put on the house?”
While vinyl siding once had a less than stellar reputation, today’s vinyl siding is a high end product that delivers long-lasting performance. Available in a variety of colors and configurations, vinyl siding is available in the traditional horizontal layout, as well as in a vertical applications that mirror traditional batten board siding – a New England style classic.
“One of the things I noticed right away was that vinyl siding can be installed with shingles in certain areas – around the corner of our home and then down along the wall that goes to the garden,” Jeannie explained. “This sounds like a minor detail, but it truly transformed the look of the house. Even though we’ve been living here for a couple of years, the first few times when we came home after the Tewksbury vinyl siding contractors were done, it took my breath away!”
